Forest Floor in June

Another still-life with Solomons plume, some oak leaves, bloodroot and oak apple gall.  This is a glimpse of the forest floor on a Sangamon River bluff in east central Illinois.  Colored pencil - Prints Available.  Not familiar with oak apple gall, take a look at this page from my field journal.

Nice drawings, wish the image were a bit larger, when you post your images to Blogger you can select a viewing size, I would guess you are using the default, try going one size larger. I have seen Oak Galls here in Eastern MA, don't they have a wasp at the center?

Thanks for the tip Kathleen, I am still somewhat new to messing with my blog settings etc. I have made the inages larger. Oak galls and all galls that I know of for that matter have the larvae of either a wasp or fly in them. Yes, a wasp in the case of oak apple gall.

I find these galls here in W. Michigan too. Fascinating!
