White Oak Leaves

The fall color is just about peak here and one of my favorite trees, white oak (Quercus alba), is displaying a wide variety of colors right now. Yesterday on a walk with my son I grabbed a variety of white oak leaves representing a wide range of shapes and colors. I cant be sure these all came from the same tree, but they did all come from three or four individuals in a small area.

No wonder I have had trouble identifying an oak tree in my garden that a squirrel planted by the leaves. How can you know for sure? Love your sketch.

What a great assortment of leaves! I've been painting (C.P.) leaves of all kinds this fall too, now working on Ginkgo leaves--So many leaves, and so little time!!! Our high-color time is pretty much past after the rains of the past several days(here in Mi.) all the brightest red ones are on the ground. The gold and bronze ones are still beautiful though.Enjoy!!!
