Love this study! It's my favorite time of year - our maple trees are breaking bud, too. I love the stages of it. Such different looks. I took some reference photos to hopefully draw from later. Happy spring! Carol
This is good. I have an oak tree in the back yard that the squirrels planted. I have no idea what kind it is. I have debated over the past few years as to whether to take it down. It is now 6'tall. You would think I could figure out what kind it is. It isn't a Pin oak. I know that one. It has a gnarly looking trunk. I don't know if that is becasue it is supposed to look like that or if it is diseased in some way. Those little rascals (the squirrels) have planted several walnuts too. I have pull them all out. My garden is too small for all that they squirrels want me to have growing.

Thanks for the comments. Spring is my favorite botanical time of year as well.
Lisa - in southern IN you might have a blackjack oak, post oak or even a bur oak if it has a gnarly trunk.
